Players looking for cheats are a favorite target for malware distributors. Follow these rules to protect your account and your PC.

1. Official sources only

Every post on this blog links to the developer's own website or official GitHub repository. Any file you get from somewhere else may have been tampered with.

2. Watch out for fake GitHub repositories

Repositories impersonating popular projects are common. Check the star count, the repository owner and how old the repository is. Example: the real Glazed repository is realnnpg/glazed, but look-alike copies with zero stars exist.

3. .exe, .rar and "launcher" bundles

Fabric-based clients are distributed as .jar files that go into the mods folder. Being handed an .exe, a password-protected .rar or a custom "launcher" "to install" is a major red flag.

4. .jar files can be malicious too

Malicious mods can steal your Minecraft session, your Discord token or passwords saved in your browser. Scan any file you don't recognize with VirusTotal before running it.

5. Use an alt account

Cheating is banned on most servers. Don't risk your main account; use a separate account for testing.

6. Don't disable your antivirus

Any install guide that says "turn off your antivirus or it won't work" is suspicious. None of the official clients ask for that.
